The day Hollywood came to London

Last updated: 29 July 2023

Taking a stroll along the Strand with my head buried in my phone on Twitter, I found myself tangled in and tripping over cords and wires that were lying across the pavement. Very much irritated I looked up to come face to face with a man in costume.  I had stepped into a movie set!

Hellooooo Hollywood!

I was convinced my dreams had come true. I’d meet Chris Hemsworth, our eyes would lock and that my days of working 9 to 5 would be over as quick as Thor’s mjölnir could flatten a mountain range.

But as it turns out, this was a period drama.  Think Downton Abbey or Pride and Prejudice and you’re about right on the money. Alas, no Chris Hemsworth.

So Hollywood hadn’t fallen on my doorstep.  I wasn’t tangled in the cables that would lead me to a life of red carpets and paparazzi after all.

This was the filming of Angelica.  I’d never heard of it.  According to IMDB its about:  A couple living in Victorian London endure an unusual series of psychological and supernatural effects following the birth of their child. (IMDB.com)

Starring a few names I’d never heard of, but apparently that’s because I’m not English. Jena Malone & Ed Stoppard are apparently well known here.  I’ll be sure to ask my movie-buff friends for more info!
