Hilton’s Delicious DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Last updated: 2 August 2023

One of our favourite and most delicious reasons for choosing to stay at a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel is the warm and tasty greeting upon arrival, I am of course referring to the DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie! A quintessential part to the whole hotel stay experience.

I’ve heard the overjoyed excitement from Russ many (many ) times when he praises the freshly-baked cookie that’s a signature part of the check in process at DoubleTree.

Hilton Releases the DoubleTree Cookie Recipe

If you’re craving a delicious DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie but not planning a hotel stay any time soon then we have some great news for you, this is the chocolate chip cookie recipe you’ve been waiting for! You can imagine our delight upon discovering that Hilton released the recipe for their famous cookie, so would-be Star Bakers can attempt to recreate it at home during lockdown. In an effort to spread a little joy and comfort during a difficult and challenging time for us all, this was a real moment of happiness. Thank you, Hilton!

To put it mildly, if I could successfully pull this bake off, I was on my way to MAJOR brownie cookie points.

A quick glance in our pantry and I realised I couldn’t make the exact DoubleTree cookie recipe without an unnecessary trip to the supermarket. Me being me, I decided to tweak it, use what I have at hand and make the recipe my own.

If you’re after the Hilton DoubleTree original, you can find it here, or keep reading for my tweaked recipe.

My take on the iconic Doubletree chocolate chip cookie recipe!

Ingredients

  • 226g butter, softened
  • 85g castor sugar
  • 113g brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 ⅛ cup plain flour
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Pinch cinnamon
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup chocolate nibs
  • ¼ cup Peanut M&Ms (crushed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 150°C
  2. Cream softened butter, sugar and brown sugar in a bowl of a stand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  3. Add eggs, vanilla and lemon juice, and blend with a mixer on low speed for 30 sec. Increase the speed to medium speed for about a minute or until light and fluffy, scraping down the bowl.  (If you don’t have a mixer, you can use a hand-held stick-blender)
  4. Put your mixer on a low speed and add flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Blending for about 45 seconds until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips, nibs and M&Ms by hand.
  6. Portion the dough. An ice cream scoop would be handy for this, or aim for about 2 tablespoons in size. Place on a tray lined with baking paper, leaving about 2 inches apart as they will flatten and expand as they cook.
  7. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is still soft.
  8. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool and set.

Notes

Substitutions

Hilton DoubleTree recipe contains walnuts. I think they would be a great addition if you have them. The crunch of substituted peanut M&Ms was invaluable.

Pimp it

A drizzle of salted caramel across the top would be delish!

Chocolate and chilli have been known to compliment one another so feel free to spice it up.

Notes

If your butter is too warm, it may melt your chocolate chips, leaving you with a swirl of chocolate rather than chunks.

To portion your cookies to perfection, cool your dough in the fridge and make golf ball sized dough balls and place them on the baking tray. Leave plenty of space for them to expand during baking.

Can I Freeze Them?

Yes you can! You can freeze the portioned cookie dough (pre-baked cookies). There’s no need to defrost before baking, just place frozen cookies on a baking tray as per instructions above.

Final Thoughts

I don’t know about you but there really isn’t anything better than the smell of freshly baked cookies so the opportunity to have a aroma of DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies wafting through our apartment but just too good to pass up. Whilst the first time I baked these cookies was during lockdown, they have certainly become a regular favourite post-pandemic. Enjoy and let us know how your bake goes for you!
