If you’re planning a visit to the city of Olomouc in the eastern province of Moravia in the Czech Republic, you’re going to need a hotel. One hotel you may be interested in is the HERBARIUM Boutique Hotel, so what we will cover in this post is everything you need to know about whether it’s worth booking for your stay in Olomouc.
This city is worth a few days on your itinerary as it’s known for its 6 baroque fountains, the UNESCO-listed 18th-century Holy Trinity Column, and the Gothic St. Wenceslas Cathedral.
The Hotel
Situated on the quieter side of Olomouc Old Town, the HERBARIUM Boutique Hotel is a 4-star boutique hotel is nestled next to the river. Just 320m from Olomouc Castle and less than a kilometre from the Baroque UNESCO monument, the Holy Trinity Column, and a 10 min walk to the Old Town where trams can be caught if you’d like to travel further afield.
Other popular landmarks of interest near the hotel include Archbishop’s Palace, Town Hall, and the Upper Square.
The Rooms
The capacity of the HERBARIUM Boutique Hotel is 12 beds over six rooms. It is possible to place an extra bed in three rooms, so the capacity can be increased to 15.
Situated all on the first floor are the six uniquely designed meadow rooms. Each room is uniquely appointed, the theme based on a flower found in the Czech Republic; Lilac, Peony, Jasmine, Hydrangea, Fern, and Poppy
The ambiance is that of quiet and calm.
With a modern design with double-glazed windows, the tones and colour scheme used throughout the hotel reflects nature’s elements such as timber floors, floral carpet, and calming greens used throughout with ascents of floral colours – yellows, pinks, reds, oranges that you would see in the wild.
Equipped with a king size bed with individual duvets typical of European accommodation. As each room is uniquely appointed, the design and aspects of the rooms vary. Some rooms feature a canopy bed, while others do not.
Rooms are generous in size varying between 366 – 409 feet² (34 – 38m²)
In your room you can expect a luggage rack to elevate your case, 2 wingback chairs, air-con, a wall-mounted flat screen tv, tea & coffee station, single-use slippers and a wardrobe with proper liberated coat-hangers. (Clearly a hotel that trusts their guests not to steal coat hangers, huzzah!)
Windows in the room are tilt & turn variety. A European classic, these windows either tilt from the bottom or swing in with a turn of the handle. The tilt option allows for ventilation without impeding on the view over the garden.
To my delight there were double power sockets on both sides of the bed, along with bedside lamps, plus a reading light made for subtle and comfortable lighting while winding down for the night.
The ensuite features a walk-in shower with a rainfall shower head, round cosmetic pads, and bulk amenities in an effort to reduce single-use plastics.

Lobby
The lobby at the HERBARIUM boutique hotel is small but sufficient. Space to check in, and a small space to wait for a friend or a taxi.
Dining / Breakfast
A buffet breakfast is included in the room rate and is served in the beautiful onsite restaurant and served between 7-11am daily.
Able to accommodate 20-25 in one sitting, this room has a modern design with a dramatic collection of hanging living ferns, large mirrors to exaggerate the size, touches of white green and timber to compliment the nature theme running throughout the room with timber floor boards, pops of colour in the chairs and floral table arrangements.
The well-spaced light timber tables are set with floral placemats, lit candles, and plain white crockery making the ceiling the focal point of the room.
Breakfast is a self-serve buffet with sausages, fried, and scrambled eggs kept warm in chafing dishes. A cold continental-style breakfast with cured meats and cheeses, cut vegetables, various breads and bagels, yoghurt, granola, gluten-free options all available.
I can vouch for the coffee which kept me going on a daily basis, as did the freshly squeezed orange juice via the Smeg juicer.
In good weather, the hotel offers a lovely outdoor terrace with plenty of outdoor seating. As the area is popular for hiking and cycling. Travelling without a bicycle? No problem, bike hire is available from the hotel.
The Essentials
I loved this hotel. The staff were fabulous and spoke English to provide recommendations on things to do, places to eat, and general friendliness. Rooms were spotless and the WiFi was fast. Overall a fabulous stay and a hotel I can happily recommend.
Parking
Parking is available at the hotel for guests for step-free access into the hotel.
Transport nearby
Navigating to HERBARIUM boutique hotel from Olomouc train station is quite a distance so I would recommend taking the tram and walking down the hill to the hotel, or arriving by car.
The nearest airport is Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport, 40 miles to the east, roughly an hour by train.
