Originally published October 2015. Never before have I attended a game show quite like this. The hostess with the most-ess is Miss Behave. That’s her there, in the sparkly headwear, the 4 inch stilettos and the gold sequined onesie. She commands the audience with a snappy quick wit and a “don’t ask, don’t get” policy. I quickly realise, this is going to be fun…
Life’s not fair, I don’t make the rules.
-Miss Behave
No game show host has ever existed without a fine piece of ass for an assistant. Typically she’s usually thin, blonde & gorgeous. Miss Behave’s is her glamorous assistant Harriet, is just that. Well almost… Harriet is a leggy, bearded man, rocking black leather hotpants as if an homage to miss Kylie Minogue.
Upon entering the Spiegeltent, the audience members are immediately divided. iPhone users to the right, ‘Others’ to the left. Farewell people you came with, your allegiance is now with your handset manufacturer. I’ve somehow ended up in iPhone territory. I hide my phone in my coat, not wanting to be labelled Judas. Ten minutes pass and in the name of a little healthy competition, I decide to fight for team iPhone and give it everything I’ve got.
Phones at the ready…
As time passes I quickly realise that this is like no show I’ve ever seen. There’s encouragement for audience members to complete tasks, come up on stage or scream loudly for points. It’s like a Wiggles show, but for adults. “1 point awarded to the first person to come up and take a selfie with me”, 15 people rush and clamber onto the stage.
The Boys from Briefs
There’s a surprise support act from the boys from Briefs. I’m already a fan as I see a gent rocking a fine example of a mullet, stubbies and thongs yelling at his “lady”. Ah the Aussie bogan stereotype. I laugh heartedly. She’s quite the “lady”, skilled at many things but mainly that she’s in jumping around in hugely high clear platform heels and hula hooping in a string bikini. The bikini doesn’t last long!
Words with Friends
Next up is the round aptly titled Words With Friends. There’s a call for volunteers. It’s make or break time as I’m selected from the audience. My challenge, to match the real names with the characters from the hit TV series Friends. Phoebe = Lisa I practice in my head. I know, I’m in my element. A tense 30 seconds on stage and I win! ROAR!!! The crowd goes wild for my win and I get high fives like I’ve never had before. My team loves me and suddenly I’ve forgotten I’m a traitor in team iPhone and have the hunger to win.
Like all good game shows there always a round you don’t know. It might be sport, it might be entertainment. For me, it was the TV theme tune round. Music plays through the speakers, audience members scream, Eastenders, or Blind Date. Whoever screams the loudest gets the points.
The leaderboard is tight, it’s anyone’s game.
Flash for Cash
Next up: flash for cash. Miss Behave put’s the call out. Do something, anything. People throw clothes onto the stage. A large breasted woman gets her nipples out for all to see. One gent, kindly squeezes his scrotum through the zipper of his pants, all in the name for points.
Final round, do something drastic to earn points for your team. One girl smashes her work phone with a mallet. This was clearly an impromptu addition to the show’s repertoire, but the crowd loves it.
