Wonderush is a new take on a not-so-new subscription based concept. Unlike being locked into a gym membership and running on a treadmill like a hamster on a wheel; Wonderush gives you the opportunity to vary your activity and your location.
Wonderush offers activities like zumba, Krav Maga, fashion photography, calligraphy and everything in between across several hundred locations across London. I was invited alongside a mix of bloggers to a sample day with just a smattering of some activities on offer in a #SayNoToFomo day.
While you sat on the couch, I made a Manhattan. After lunch, I practiced my French at a language exchange then I went to beginners ballet.
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know I like to throw myself into all and any opportunities that come my way. Driving through the snow? Hitting golf balls into the London skyline? Ziplining through mountains? Eating a pony? I’m in!
First up in our taster day was a Salsa class. I have some rhythm but I still felt like a hippo from Fantasia as I shook and shimmied across the dancefloor. Hmm perhaps this isn’t for me…
Next up was life drawing. Considering there is artistic talents in my family, I was disappointed to see I sketch draw the gorgeous burlesque performer we had before our eyes. Basic shapes were there but the detail obviously lacking! Next!
Time for lunch, we were fed a Sri Lankan staple, Kothu Roti, by the fine folks at Kothu Kothu. This was my first time having Sri Lankan food, so another a new experience, #tick! After requesting a ‘mild’ serving, I then proceeded to slather it in all the yogurt they had on hand. Needless to say, it was a bit spicy for me as I felt like a fire breathing dragon!
After lunch was, ukulele lessons and a new take on Yoga. Despite being in the orchestra as a teenager, I quickly realised the ukulele was not for me. Fumbling over the chords like a total rookie, I resorted to singing along and jumping in where I could with the chords I knew.
Happy to finally have an activity I was good at, yoga was a walk in the park. Stretch, bend, change. I did have a bit of trouble switching off to rest in shavasana but the calm laze was welcomed after such a physical day.
To wrap up the day, we played some games with Luce from Antidote London. Feeling quite the foreigner, most of these games were really new to me, so it was a quick teach and off we go. Simple counting games, Grandmas footsteps and a very competitive chair-swapping session of ‘Anybody who…’ just to name a few! It was really fun to let my inner child run wild as I slipped and slid across the polished floorboards.
The verdict
Overall, would I rate the experience? ABSOLUTELY. I love trying new things and I’m the first one to experiment with a new class or experience until I find something I really enjoy. That’s the whole point of Wonderush.
…but, I don’t have anyone to go with.
Pfft so what?! Go alone and make new friends!
I can understand if you’re nervous about signing up to a new program. You’ll get locked in & the next minute you find yourself saying, I wanna quit the gym. (#ChandlerBing).
So your commitment issues aren’t unfounded nor do you want to sign your life away. That’s ok! Wonderush has one of those great cancel anytime policies. Hazzah! So no more missing out, no more excuses. Embrace your individuality, grasp your quirkiness with oven mittens and free your inner boho.
