Last updated: 27 June 2023

Sculpture by the Sea, the famous public art exhibition last held in 2019 will see its very welcome return to the Bondi to Tamarama Beach coastal walk this year from 21 October to 7 November 2022. It’s Australia’s largest annual outdoor sculpture exhibition and this year will feature 100 sculptures from various artists across the 2km walking track.

The coastal walk that runs from Bondi to Tamarama Beach will become a popular outdoor art gallery visited by thousands of art enthusiasts from across Australia and the world who are all keen to admire the latest artwork set against a jaw-dropping world-class ocean view. It is little wonder by Sculpture by the Sea is one of Sydney’s biggest attractions of the year.

What to Expect from a Visit to Sculpture by the Sea

Below are a series of photos from our visit to Sculpture by the Sea in years gone by and whilst they won’t show you exactly what this year’s art installation will look like, it certainly gives you an idea of what to expect when walking along the Bondi to Tamarama Beach coastal walk during Sculpture by the Sea.

You can expect the walking path to be busy, after all the weather is warm and the ocean views are enticing, so expect there to be plenty of people. And this year in 2022, you can expect that people will be happy to make the most of being outdoors and appreciating everything this beautiful city has to offer. The below photo was captured during a mid-week visit. If you’re keen to avoid crowds then visiting mid-week will be a good decision.

The Essentials

Bondi to Tamarama Beach

  • When: 21 October to 7 November 2022
  • Distance: 2km walk
  • Difficulty: A paved path with some steps.  Parts are not really suitable for wheelchairs or prams. Check the maps for accessibility.
  • Transport: The area is heavily serviced by bus. City to Bondi look for 333 or 380. City to Tamarama Beach look for 333.  See https://transportnsw.info/ for more specific transport information.
  • Insider tips: avoid driving unless you know the area really well. Parking is limited, road closures due to the event and the local Council is notorious for overcharging for parking.
