the London weekend road trip series

Last updated: 15 July 2023

Welcome to a new feature on the site, a road trip series.  As avid road trippers, Russell and I discussed the concept of writing it up, floated the idea by some readers with a resounding hazzah & some cheers.

I’ve encountered so many people that say ‘why would you go there?’.  Well, the series has been created to address such quandaries.  We’ll provide destination advice for those looking for a quick roady out of London for no more than a long weekend.  As always, the end goal here is to get as many people out and about exploring as possible, all the while imparting wisdom to any readers that want it.

Why drive?

For a few reasons:

  1. it’s fun! (Think singalongs, license plate bingo & questionable drive-thru)
  2. it’s cheaper than the ridiculously overpriced UK trains
  3. the freedom a car affords you. Stop where you want, when you want.

More times than I can count, Russell and I have been en route to a destination and detoured elsewhere.  After receiving local intel or reading a tip on Twitter we’re suddenly sent off course on yet another adventure.

Want to climb Europe’s biggest sand dune? Sure! How about sampling famous chocolate in Bayonne? Yes please!

That’s what it’s all about.  The spontaneity, the adventure.  Sure sticking to the map can be fun, but what if you didn’t?

So here it is. Well, here’s the start!  As frequently as we can, we will write up recent weekend road trip adventures and upload them to share.  Something you want to know about? Get in touch, as there’s a good chance we’ve already been there and have some advice to share.

First up is Wiltshire.

The series is fluid so if you want to see more of something or less of something, let us know! Comment or tweet us to your heart’s content.
